Magha Scene

Magha scene Visitors to the Thai capital Bangkok in March will be able to see the world, or at least a small bit of it, turn orange in a huge gathering of Buddhist monks at the Magha Puja festival.

Held every February or March (2007 date to be confirmed), the event commemorates a historic gathering of 1,250 disciples who came to hear the Buddha preach, with a similar number turning up to ceremonially mark the occasion, discuss teachings and meditate, followed by a procession and incense burning.

Those interested in Thai faith and culture will find the event fascinating, although those without prior knowledge may expect a steep learning curve.

Apart from the festival, Bangkok has a variety of fascinating things to see and do.

Visitor attractions include the spectacular Grand Palace, the fascinating museums, full of Thai architects and temples such as Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew.

The city has a wide range of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
