Phuket Hosts International Marathon

Phuket hosts international marathon After suffering devastation in the aftermath of the tsunami, Phuket has announced that it is ready to host this year's Phuket International Marathon.

Phuket is expected to play host to around 3,000 runners from home and abroad from June 16th to June 18th.

The competitors, from over 30 countries, will take part in the event to discover some of the area's most beautiful paradise beaches.

This year's slogan is Run Paradise and will feature a 42-kilometre full marathon, a 21-kilometre half marathon, a ten-kilometre fun run and one-kilometre children's run.

"With the global running boom, we believe that it's now the right time to stage the international marathon in Phuket. People all over the world are taking up running to stay fit and healthy," comments Rimund Wellenhofer, race director for the marathon.

Other activities have been organised for the three days, with the marathon also being held to celebrate the Thai King's 60th accession to the throne.

The Thai region of Nakon Nayok will also host the first Klong Thadan Dam marathon on June 4th.

To see what else this beautiful region of Thailand has to offer, now may be a perfect time to book your accommodation in one of the many top hotels in Phuket.
