Thailand Hosts World Buddhism Conference

Thailand hosts world Buddhism conference Thailand has announced that it is to host an international Buddhism conference to mark the World Vesak Day.

The event will also mark the 60th anniversary of the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej's ascension to the throne this year.

This is the third consecutive year that Thailand has held the event, which this year will be hosted at Buddha Monthon in Thailand's central province of Nakhon Pathom from May 7th to May 10th.

Over 1,500 Buddhist leaders from 45 countries are expected to participate in a four-day conference, which will be chaired by Somdej Phra Puthajam, a senior Thai monk.

Thai Buddhists will also attend sermons at temples around the country on Vesak Day, the holiest day for all Buddhists, which falls on May 12th this year.

An exhibition on World Vesak Day or World Peace Day has also been organised for the four-day forum.

The theme of this year's event has been entitled "Buddhist contributions to world peace and sustainable development".
