Trunk with Excitement

Trunk with excitement Visitors to Thailand will get plenty of opportunities to see elephants, many of them in traditional ceremonies or working, but visitors to Anantara in September will get the chance to see a long standing pastime rooted in British colonialism.

The game of elephant polo, a popular pastime from the days of empire, lives on in the King's Cup, a tournament that rotates between Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

In 2007 the event is back in Hua Hin in Anantara, where the huge beasts stroll about the pitch looking to outscore one another (dates to be confirmed), with a big bronze trophy for the winners.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Anantara can enjoy the spectacle, as well as many more elephant-related activities.

These include elephant rides into the jungle and a chance to see the great beasts close-up at the Thai Elephant Conservation centre.
