Heritage in Tunis
Fans of heritage and archaeological artefacts may wish to head to Tunis, to view a large number of artefacts on display.
The National Museum of Bardo contains a number of items, spanning various periods in the rich cultural history of Tunisia and is regarded as the north African country's equivalent of the Louvre, claims Whatsonwhen.
Residing in a Hafside palace which was created in the 13th century, the museum is known for the splendour and beauty of its surroundings.
Additions made in thane 17th and 18th centuries saw Arab-muslim cupolas, galleries and vaulted ceilings created.
The Bardo contains one of the world's largest collections of artefacts from the Carthaginian period of history, which makes it one of few world centres for the era.
Tunisia has one of the longest and most colourful histories in Europe, notes the tourist board, while an "ideal climate", long shoreline and many cheap hotels mean that tourists are still flocking there today.
