Art Among the Architecture

Art among the architecture Art lovers may still have time to make it over to Istanbul in October, as its international art festival is still attracting talent and spotters from across the continent.

The event is set in traditional venues, such as the Dolmabahce Cultural Centre, a 19th century building facing the Asian side of the city on the Bosphorus.

Also, the fourth century St Irene's Church and Yerebatan Cistern, two of Istanbul's most historical buildings, will play host to the art event.

The festival itself, which has been running since 1987, aims to encourage local artists, along with critics, curators and other talent from around the world to meet, exchange ideas and derive inspiration.

Several articulated programmes are running at the Autumn 2006 instalment of the biennial event, including a partnership with the Van Abbe Museum in the Netherlands.

Pope Benedict XVI recently announced that he would be visiting Turkey later in 2006, in order to visit some holy sites in the country, although he may not be staying at one of the many cheap hotels available in Istanbul.
