Dubai hotels welcoming more visitors Cheap hotels in Dubai have proven an increasingly popular option this year as the emirate has seen rising revenues and visitor numbers at its accommodation establishments.

Figures released by the Dubai department of tourism and commerce marketing show that hotels saw revenue of 4.3 billion dirhams (£593.6 million) in the first quarter of 2008.

This is an increase of more than 20 per cent on the 3.5 billion dirhams taken in the corresponding period of 2007.

The total number of guests in hotels and hotel apartments increased from 1.77 million to 1.89 million this year, while the number of nights spent in accommodation rose from 5.5 million to six million.

One of the most high-profile additions to the Dubai hotel market, the Atlantis at Palm Jumeirah island, is set to open in September this year.

The emirate is famous for its accommodation establishments – the Burj Al Arab, which is modelled on the sail of a boat, is the world's tallest building used exclusively as a hotel.
