Dubai Sports City Prepares to Open Its Doors

Dubai Sports City prepares to open its doors The Dubai Sports City complex is preparing for a year that will see it open some of its attractions to people staying in hotels in Dubai for the first time.

One of the first areas to open in the complex, which claims to be the world's first city dedicated entirely to sport, will be the 18-hole championship golf course designed by Ernie Els.

Visitors staying in hotels in Dubai later in the year will also be able to visit a 25,000-seat cricket stadium and a hockey arena that is set to host an international tournament.

Khalid Al Zarooni, president of Dubai Sports City, said: "A new year always brings with it new challenges, new opportunities and a sense of excitement about the coming months ahead.

"Whereas many people often use this season as an opportunity to reflect on times past, Dubai Sports City is firmly fixed on the future."

The £2 billion sports venture is the cornerstone project of Dubailand, the under-development entertainment complex that will include theme parks, cultural activities and shopping centres.
