Six Million Dollar Horses

Six Million Dollar Horses There are many horse races around the world that command a high profile - the Grand National, the Melbourne Cup, the Kentucky Derby to name but three, but the richest of them all is in Dubai.

Due to be held on March 31st at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, the Dubai World Cup has $6 million (£3.06 million) riding on it, with the World Cup itself and another six thoroughbred races.

The course itself has state-of-the-art facilities, with good viewing, plus plenty of food and drink outlets serving a westerner-friendly array of snacks and drinks.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Dubai will find that the whole city is friendly to westerners, with liberal laws over dress, alcohol and betting (especially on horses) sitting side-by-side with mosques and age-old traditions in this vibrant, modern and wealthy city with a large ex-pat community.

While sun and sea are in abundance along with exciting nightlife, the more adventurous may also wish to take a trek into the desert, enjoy a camel ride or go sailing.
