Slake Your Thirst for Shopping in Dubai

Retail addicts will be able to satisfy their appetites in one of the world's most glamorous locations next year as Dubai hosts its annual Shopping Festival.

People staying in hotels in Dubai will be able to enjoy a period of "non-stop festivities" between January 24th and February 24th 2008.

The organisers of the festival claim that this period is so distinguished by its atmosphere and appeal that it is effectively Dubai's 'fifth season'.

Over its 11-year history the Dubai Shopping Festival has grown substantially, from 1.6 million visitors at the inaugural event in 1996 to an audience of 3.5 million people at the 2006-07 event.

The most recent incarnation of the festival hosted a number of competitions, which gave away 96 Lexus cars, 45 Nissans, 45kg of gold and a number of cash prizes.

Visitors gave as much as they got, however, spending some 10.2 billion dirhams (£1.37 billion) over the course of the event.
