America's Wild West Comes to Edinburgh

People staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh will soon be able to immerse themselves in the harsh but exciting world of the American wild west.

Between March 1st and May 4th the city's Fruitmarket Gallery will be hosting Print the Legend - a group exhibition that brings together a number of diverse works by artists across the UK and northern Europe.

The title of the show is a quotation from the 1962 John Wayne film The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, which includes the line: "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to learn about Europe's ongoing fascination with the old American west and the gaps between the reality of that time and the mythologised version.

Curated by Patricia Bickers, editor of Art Monthly, the show will include work by Adam Chodzko, Peter Granser, Cornelia Parker and Gillian Wearing.

People staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh later this year will also be able to explore an exhibition of the work of Lucy Skaer, a young Glasgow-based artist best known for large works on paper that combine imagery taken from a variety of sources.
