Ancient Greeks Resurrected in North-east England

Ancient Greeks resurrected in north-east England People with a passion for ancient history who happen to be staying in cheap hotels in Newcastle from October 18th should be sure to pay a visit to the South Shields Museum and Art Gallery.

Until January 24th next year, the museum will play host to a touring exhibition from the British Museum entitled Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes.

This display will incorporate various subject areas and aspects associated with Ancient Greece, from mythical serpents to legendary warriors.

The specific focus of the exhibition is competition in the ancient civilisation, from sporting events such as the Olympics to the arenas of politics, drama, music and warfare.

One of the largest collections of artefacts ever loaned by the British Museum helps form the display, including examples of Ancient Greek craftsmanship such as marble sculptures and intricately detailed vases.

People who visit the exhibition on its first day will be able to join in with a family fun event, which will incorporate activities ranging from Greek pottery to the telling of stories inspired by ancient myths and legends.
