Bagpipes to Blow Up a Storm in Glasgow

Bagpipes to blow up a storm in Glasgow Glasgow is set to host the world's largest bagpipe event in August, bringing traditional pipe bands from all over the worlds to the city.

Taking place on August 12th, the World Pipe Band Championships is expected to be a colourful and musical celebration of the unique Celtic sound.

Full dress of kilts, sporrans, high socks and brogues will be expected for competitors, so fans attending should see a lively and vibrant display of ancient tradition.

Pipe band are no longer a preserve of the British Isles, as there are now more based in New York than Scotland, while in Oman musicians ply their piping on the back of camels, Whatsonwhen reports.

Categories for the championships are in adults, juvenile and junior age brackets, with the event itself taking place in the city's Glasgow Green.

Fans of the instrument may wish to stay for a while and take in the sights of Glasgow, or book into a cheap hotel and take advantage of the city's vibrant nightlife.
