Barking York

Barking York There are many places to celebrate the Chinese new year, including China, but closer to home sees York put on its own festival in January (date to be confirmed) to mark the beginning of the Year of the Dog.

York's National Centre for Early Music is marking the event with a series of workshops on Chinese music, while the festival climaxes with a lantern parade.

Apart from the Chinese festival, the historic city of York has a vast range of attractions for visitors.

These include the Jorvik Viking centre, the walkable city walls, the castle and boat trips on the river Ouse.

Its centre is characterised by a number of narrow streets and tudor buildings, with plenty of themed shops and cafes.

York's chief attraction is the Minster, a vast cathedral containing ornate and spectacular architecture with guided tours available.

The city has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
