Boat Fever Set to Grip the Thames
The university boat race is with us again this weekend.
The annual event, which pits international oarsmen masquerading as the crews of Oxford and Cambridge universities against each other, is pushing off from Putney on Sunday.
The four-and-a-quarter mile race down the Thames to Mortlake is over in just twenty minutes but that won't stop thousands of spectators lining the route for an agreeable afternoon by the river.
There are many good spots for the spectator along the course, with many people taking the option to cycle along the Thames Footpath beside the teams.
For those requiring refreshment, the river boasts a number of good pubs offering vantage points but be sure to get there early as they are popular.
For a more refined occasion, book a table at the pricey but delicious River Cafe in Hammersmith.
Oxford won the race last year but this year's event seems to be too close to call.
The race gets event underway at 16:25.
