Book a Cheap Hotel in York and See Britain's Prettiest Street

Book a cheap hotel in York and see Britain's prettiest street People might want to book a cheap hotel in York after the Google Street View awards named one of the city's streets the most picturesque in Britain.

The Shambles is a 14th century small street that attracts thousands of visitors a year to walk down it's unique and historic cobbles.

It is perhaps most famous for its leaning houses, from which, if two people were to lean out of opposite windows, they could hold hands. The lower floors still have large shop windows and one small dwelling marks the shrine of York's martyr St Margaret Clitherow.

Two further streets won Google awards. Stonegate, in the shadow of York Minster, was voted second for best British street for fashion and Fossgate came third for best food.

More than 11,000 people voted in the awards from selected images. The awards were launched to mark more photographs being uploaded onto the 360 degree street-view mapping tool, which allows users to intricately view almost any street in the UK.
