Brits Vote Edinburgh Their Favourite UK City
Readers of the Guardian and Observer newspapers have voted Edinburgh their favourite city in the UK.
This year's Guardian and Observer Travel Awards gathered the views of some 17,000 readers and the honours were handed out recently at a ceremony in Fez, Morocco.
The Scottish capital continued to be the top UK destination in the awards, with Newcastle slipping slightly and Brighton, Oxford and Norwich all moving up the table of favourite cities.
People staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh can visit a number of world famous tourist attractions, including Edinburgh castle and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
One of the surprise packages in the overseas city section was Krakow, which jumped from tenth to second place, while San Francisco also proved popular in a category that was topped by Sydney.
Switzerland was voted the top European country, followed by Sweden and Croatia, while New Zealand emerged as the favourite long-haul country, ahead of Cambodia and Japan.
