Burns Supper World Record Bid Planned

Burns supper world record bid planned People who will be staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh, Glasgow or indeed any location around the world on January 25th have been invited to take part in the Burns Supper Celebration.

This event is being organised by VisitScotland in partnership with the Famous Grouse whisky company to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.

People all over the world hosting festivities for Burns Night on January 25th are being invited to register their celebrations online on the Burns Supper 2009 website.

The aim of the initiative is establish a new world record for the highest number of Burns suppers ever held.

Paul Bush OBE, chief operating officer of EventScotland, said: "We are delighted to launch the world famous Burns Supper Celebration with The Famous Grouse and encourage everyone around the world, whatever they are doing for Burns Night, to join in by registering on the site.

"We hope to hear of a vast array of different celebrations including the largest ever Burns supper and perhaps the highest, such as one held on the top of Mount Aconcagua in Argentina last year."

Burns Night 2009 will kick off Homecoming Scotland, a year-long celebration that will see various events and festivals being held throughout the year until St Andrew's Day on November 30th.
