Campaign Invites Brits to Visit Scotland
Cheap hotels in Edinburgh and other popular destinations in Scotland could prove a more attractive option for many British travellers this year as a result of a new tourism campaign being launched by VisitScotland.
The Perfect Day initiative has been put together at a cost of £1 million and is expected to reach some 36 million people across the UK, making it Scotland's biggest ever domestic tourism campaign.
Accommodation partners all over the country will be involved in the promotion, informing travellers of the range of Scottish alternatives to European destinations.
The campaign is being launched to appeal to British travellers who may have been put off the idea of an overseas break this year by the exchange rate.
Scottish tourism minister Jim Mather said: "This is the biggest domestic tourism drive VisitScotland has ever launched and we want to showcase the best of what Scotland has to offer to tourists right across the UK.
"As people start to look to tighten their belts during these difficult economic times, this is a great opportunity to encourage people to consider the benefits of a domestic holiday in beautiful Scotland, rather than travelling abroad."
Some of Scotland's most popular tourist attractions are its inner-city landmarks, such as Edinburgh Castle and Glasgow Cathedral.
