Discover David Shrigley at the Baltic
People staying in cheap hotels in Newcastle this year will have the opportunity to discover the unique visions of David Shrigley at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
An exhibition presenting a range of the artist's work opened today (September 10th) and will run until November 9th.
In his own words, Shrigley's work is "about everything and nothing".
The exhibition at the Baltic Centre is imbued with the artist's typical deadpan sense of humour and the sense of wit that he likes to portray in his creations.
Shrigley is best known for his sketch drawings, which often present human figures going through the stresses, fears and preoccupations that most ordinary people experience on a daily basis.
He also works in sculpture and a number of his new 3D creations will feature in the exhibition, looking at subjects such as the transformation of everyday objects into things that look strange and unnatural.
People with a passion for photography will also be able to find something to interest them at the Baltic Centre this year – until October 26th the venue will display a number of portraits by Beat Streuli that were taken at the Great North Run in 2007.
