Discover Frank Pottinger in Edinburgh
People staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh this summer will be able to discover a new artist, or reinforce their interest in one they already know, in the form of Frank Pottinger.
An exhibition of Pottinger's work will be held in the friends' room of the Royal Scottish Academy from July 5th until September 29th.
The display will consist of prints – mainly woodcuts and etchings – as well as a few of his sculptures.
All of the display pieces will be concerned with poetry and language, two themes which have been of interest to Pottinger since his schooldays.
One of the artist's intentions with his work is to explore the fact that, while writers and poets use words to express their ideas, artists use images. Pottinger's work intends to 'suggest' poetry, rather than illustrate the poet.
Some of the prints and sculptures are attempts on Pottinger's part to create a visual representation of the shapes that often emerge in sounds and words.
Edinburgh visitors interested in seeing this exhibition can find the Royal Scottish Academy on the Mound in the capital.
