Discover the Work of Jo Spence in Glasgow

People who are familiar with the work of Jo Spence, or photography enthusiasts who are interested in learning more about a fascinating artist, can visit an exhibition in Glasgow over the coming months.

The Gallery of Modern Art will host a showcase dedicated to Spence until November 16th this year.

Included in the exhibition are 13 photographs that were recently donated by the Jo Spence memorial archive in London.

Spence used her camera as a tool, employing it to challenge sexual stereotypes relating to women, to empower marginalised social groups and to explore issues relating to family and illness.

In 1982, Spence was diagnosed with breast cancer and many of the photographs in the exhibition were taken from this point onwards, during which time she used her art to reflect her illness and document her treatment as a cancer patient.

When this display comes to an end, people staying in cheap hotels in Glasgow will be able to visit the Gallery of Modern Art as it hosts a showcase of some of the community-based projects the Open Museum has been involved with over the last two years.
