Edinburgh Issues Call to Arms
Edinburgh will be looking back at hundreds of years of military history this year at the exhibition Call to Arms.
This display will open at the National War Museum on May 23rd and people staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh will be able to visit the exhibition until February 1st next year.
Numerous aspects of Scotland's military heritage will be covered by the showcase, from the time of elite Gaelic warriors to infantry soldiers in the modern army.
Particular attention will be paid to four historical figures – a 15th century 'galloglaigh' mercenary, a 17th century highland warrior, a 19th century troop employed by the British Army and today's soldier facing the challenges of modern warfare.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to explore centuries of clothing, protection, weapons and tactics, including the famous broadsword, or claymore, that was used in the 18th century.
People staying in cheap hotels in Dublin will find the National War Museum inside Edinburgh Castle.
