Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo began on Saturday and is set to wow spectators until August 24th.

The event, which takes place each evening at Edinburgh Castle, features over 800 performers and some 30 horses in military re-enactments, stunts and musical extravaganzas.

Visitors will be seated on the Castle Esplanade, which stands in front of Edinburgh's hilltop castle, affording spectacular views of the action.

This year the ever-present Scots Guards and Coldstream Guards are joined by Switzerland's Top Secret Drum Corps and the New Zealand Army Band.

As well as the traditional bands and shows of a Scottish nature, motorcycle displays, parachute stunts and shows from military forces from throughout the globe will be taking place to entertain the thousands of visitors who have attended the event each year since 1950.

The Massed Highland Dancers and the Lone Piper, two of the most popular events at the tattoo, will again be returning.
