Enjoy a Night at the Chinese Opera

Enjoy a Night at the Chinese Opera The Edinburgh Festival Theatre will offer its visitors an unusual experience this year with A Night at the Chinese Opera.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh will be able to see this show, which is sung in English, between June 24th and 27th.

Set in 14th century China, the opera follows a group of workers who gather and act out a play, The Chao Family Orphan.

When Chao Lin, a civil engineer, notices that the play seems to mirror his own life, he decides to use the story to predict his destiny, but soon realises that he may not be in control of his eventual fate.

This new production of A Night at the Chinese Opera is composed by Judith Weir, one of the most exciting artists currently working in British opera.

Directing duties are taken on by Lee Blakeley, a name that will already be familiar to Scottish Opera audiences following his recent sold-out version of Die Fledermaus.
