Enjoy a Six-week Party in Edinburgh
Scottish people have never been known for doing things by half measures, especially when a party is involved, and the city of Edinburgh will be upholding that reputation this year with a six-week Christmas and new year celebration.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh can see the Winter Festival get started on November 22nd with Light Night, when the Norwegian Christmas tree in Princes Street Gardens is illuminated and the city's festive lights are switched on.
The occasion is followed by a fireworks show and a performance on ice.
Throughout the six weeks of the festival there will be the traditional German market stalls selling mulled wine and other hearty Christmas fare as well as Scottish markets offering local produce, handicrafts and gifts.
As Hogmanay approaches there will be a four-day extravaganza of celebration in Edinburgh, with a torchlight procession and a candlelit concert in St Giles Cathedral among the events marking the end of the year.
The legendary Edinburgh Hogmanay street party will then see in 2008 and those that have the strength can even take part in Loony Dook on New Year's Day.
For those who have not heard of it before, Loony Dook is the tradition that sees hundreds of people jumping into the freezing water of the River Forth.
