Exciting Artist Displays Work in Edinburgh
Edinburgh's Fruitmarket Gallery will this year dedicate a show to one of the most exciting talents on the modern art scene, Lucy Skaer.
Since graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 1997, Skaer has been nominated for the Beck's Futures Prize and helped represent Scotland at the Venice Biennale in 2007.
Her work was also included in the British Art Show 6, an exploration of young artists working in the UK, which was held at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead in 2005.
Skaer's exhibition at the Fruitmarket Gallery will involve a major new commission as well as pieces exploring the full range and development of her work over recent years.
The artist experiments in a variety of forms and media, including large-scale drawings that explore the relationship between reality and the image, film, sculpture and installation.
A range of images and found items are also incorporated into Skaer's work, including icons from photo reportage, scientific dictionaries and ethnological artefacts, as well as designs from objects including heraldic masks and antique vessels.
