Explore the Art of Italy in Regal Surroundings

Explore the art of Italy in regal surroundings Visitors to Edinburgh this summer will be able to learn all about the art of Italy in the unique surroundings of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The palace's Queens Gallery has been hosting an exhibition titled The Art of Italy since April 25th and culture vultures staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh will be able to see the display until October 26th.

Particular focus is placed on the royal collection of Italian art from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The exhibition looks at the Italian Renaissance and features work by some of the great masters of 16th-century Venice, Florence and Rome, including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Tintoretto and Titian.

Many of the pieces were collected by Charles I, who developed a passion for Renaissance art during a visit to Europe in 1623.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is located at the end of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, is the Queen's official residence in Scotland and was founded as a monastery in 1128.
