Fans Flock to Edinburgh Fringe
Organisers of 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival have reported mammoth ticket sales on the event's first weekend, it has been reported.
Venues across the city are said to be selling out fast, with the event so far proving more popular than last year, according to the Scotsman.
Anthony Alderson, the director of the Pleasance, which is fielding 230 shows, told the newspaper: "Maybe people aren't going on holiday, but they have a little bit of money to spend."
William Burdett-Coutts, the director of the Assembly, added: "We have had the best opening weekend we have had for a few years. I suspect that in a recession, it's likely that the public are attracted to the cheap tickets."
This year a record 2,088 shows will be performed at the event which runs from August 4th to 25th.
Last year, 1.7 million people bought tickets to the annual event which features almost 19,000 performers.
