Far from Dire in Edinburgh

Former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler will be showing that he still has what it takes in Edinburgh in May.

Music fans staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh will be able to see the singer, songwriter and guitarist at the city's Playhouse venue on May 18th.

The show will help Knopfler warm up for his US tour this year, which will take him to New York on July 23rd, Miami Beach, Florida on July 31st and many others.

Knopfler shot to fame with Dire Straits in the late 1970s and throughout the 80s, before the group disbanded in 1995.

Since then, he has continued to exercise his considerable musical abilities by producing solo albums and working with other artists including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Jools Holland and Steely Dan.

The singer has also explored the world of the movies, providing the scores for films including Last Exit to Brooklyn, Wag the Dog and The Princess Bride.
