There can be few more interesting places to be on Earth than the city of Edinburgh in late summer during the festival season.
Often referred to as the Edinburgh festival, the event is in fact a series of festivals, running from August 10th to September 2nd 2007.
These include the International Festival, with theatres packed out to see a variety of performances of music, theatre, dance and opera, while smaller venues take in the famous fringe with its alternative theatre.
In addition to this are the book and film festivals, while the most spectacular pageantry and military show of strength and organisation are on display in the tattoo.
The whole event ends with a large fireworks display on the night of September 2nd.
Edinburgh has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels, but visitors need to book fast because demand will be high.
