Fly by Phone

Fly by phone For anyone who ever felt fed up with their old mobile phone, for anyone who heard a ringtone they could not stand and for anyone irritated by the loud person sat behind them on the train bellowing into a small device, this is the one.

All these frustrations can be an inspiration for anyone wanting to take part in The 8th Day UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships, held at Old Hamptonians Rugby Club in south-west London on August 12th 2007.

For £5, visitors can enter the contest and have three attempts at trying to hurl a mobile phone the furthest, taking out years of irritation on an unsuspecting handset and watching with glee as it soars and spins through the air before landing as far away as possible.

There are prizes for those who can throw the furthest, but the biggest winner is the charity Action Aid, which raises money at the event through the donation of disused mobile phones which can then be recycled.

Competitors and spectators are encouraged to bring unused old mobiles to help Action Aid to help needy causes in the third world.

There are plenty of cheap hotels in the Hampton area and all of London's attractions are within reach, with Kempton Park Racecourse and Hampton Court Palace the closest.
