Glasgow Among Lonely Planet's 'world Class Cities'

Glasgow among Lonely Planet's 'world class cities' Glasgow has been ranked as one of the globe's ten 'world class cities' in a new book to be published by Lonely Planet this week.

The publishing house's new guide, Best in Travel 2009, will feature sections on the coming year's hottest travel trends, top destinations, best journeys and unmissable experiences.

Glasgow was the only UK destination included in the new book's 'top ten cities' section.

It was chosen for a number of attributes that people who have stayed in cheap hotels in Glasgow will already be familiar with, including its modern style, range of world-class designers and striking architecture.

Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall said: "The time has come for Lonely Planet to let one of its worst kept secrets out: Glasgow's got everything.

"When we put together Best in Travel 2009 we were looking for the best places to go and things to do in the world right now. We're delighted to highlight such a fun, stylish city."

A broad range of cities made it into Lonely Planet's top ten list for 2009, including Antwerp, Beirut, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Warsaw.
