Glasgow to Host Key GB Davis Cup Tie
Glasgow has been confirmed as the host city for next year's Davis Cup tie between Great Britain and Ukraine.
With Scot Andy Murray currently riding high in the world rankings, tennis is becoming increasingly popular north of the border and as such this news is likely to lead to a spike in demand for cheap hotels in Glasgow as fans clamour to get courtside seats.
To be held at the city's Braehead Arena between March 6th and 8th, the Euro-Africa Zone Group One match-up will decide which country progresses through to the World Group play-offs, due to be held next September.
While Davis Cup captain John Lloyd has welcomed the news that his side will be cheered on by a passionate Scottish crowd, following Great Britain's recent defeat to Austria, he is wary of getting too carried away.
"Home Davis Cup ties are a fantastic opportunity to get behind the team, and we will be looking for plenty of support when we take on Ukraine next year," he said.
"We last played them in 2006 in Odessa, which was my first tie as captain. It was a tough tie and we will certainly not be underestimating them."
Glasgow is also set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
