Go Down the Hatch
Fans of motorsport will not have to head too far to enjoy the ninth round of the World Superbikes Championship as the circus rolls - on two wheels - into southern England and the riders prepare to take their place on the grid at Brands Hatch, near Longfield in Kent.
The circuit lies close to the M20, but far greater speeds than 70mph will be displayed on August 5th, as the world's finest 500cc riders hurtle round the course, leaning at improbable angles as they take corners, with much more overtaking that Formula One and a spectacular wheelie by whoever wins.
At present Britain's Jamie Toseland leads the championship after six races with 196 points, with Italian Max Biaggi trailing in second on 164.
Fans can get tickets from the Brands Hatch website, which is selling them for £35 in advance of the event, compared with £45 for entry on the day.
The Longfield area has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
