Great Conductors Come to London
People staying in cheap hotels in London over the coming months will be able to enjoy the London Symphony Orchestra's (LSO) Great Conductors season as it gradually draws to a close.
The summer will see the LSO collaborating with five of the world's most feted conductors at the Barbican and St Paul's Cathedral, including Sir Colin Davis.
Sir Colin will lead the orchestra's renditions of works by Schubert and Bruckner on May 23rd and June 1st, before turning his attention to pieces by Sibelius on June 29th and July 2nd.
Bernard Haitink will be at the Barbican on June 8th and 10th to conduct LSO performances of Mozart and Strauss, and again on June 15th and 17th for different works by the same composers.
Andre Previn will return to the podium in front of the LSO on June 22nd for performances of Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Brahms' Violin Concerto.
The climax to the entire season will come at St Paul's Cathedral on July 9th and 10th, when Valery Gergiev will lead a performance of Mahler's epic Symphony no 8, which will also feature the London Symphony Chorus and the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
