Great Scot

Great Scot Those looking for a chance to celebrate New Year in style without travelling too far can do so simply by heading north of the border for the legendary Hogmanay festival.

Glasgow offers a huge party to mark the occasion, centred on St George's square in the city centre, which will be bursting with 25,000 revellers.

The event will feature fun and fireworks, with music by the Strathclyde police band and the Finlay Macdonald folk music band, topped by Deacon Blue playing their first gig of 2007 after midnight.

Running from 20:30 BST until 1:30, the event in the square costs £5.

Apart from the fun in the city centre, the whole of Glasgow will be partying away, with numerous other events planned, while those who fancy a peaceful retreat after partying hard can head up to nearby Loch Lomond to enjoy some peace and tranquillity.

Glasgow has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
