'High Hopes' for English Tourism in 2010

'High hopes' for English tourism in 2010 VisitEngland has revealed that it has "high hopes" for the country's tourism industry in 2010.

Jenny McGee, head of strategy and engagement for the tourism agency, referred to figures from the UK Tourism Survey last year showing that more people took breaks in England during the three months from June to August.

She said that this hints at "a renaissance for the great English summer holiday" and highlighted the importance of some of the country's northern destinations.

"As 2010 fast approaches and the winter season sets in, the opportunity to rediscover the gems of England awaits, giving visitors that extra little nudge to book a last-minute short break in one of England's northern counties," Ms McGee said.

People interested in exploring northern England can book cheap hotels in York to see the historic city and the scenic county that surrounds it.

According to a study carried out by OnePoll last year, the Lake District and London are two of the top ten holiday hotspots in Europe.
