Honk if You Fancy a Gander at This
Mention Nottingham and most people would immediately think of Robin Hood, but the city has much else going on, not least the famous annual Nottingham Goose Fair, held from October 4th to the 8th.
One of the largest travelling fairs in Europe, the annual fair has been taking place since mediaeval times, old enough for Robin himself to have paid a visit.
It takes place at the Forest Showground, from which local football club Nottingham Forest takes its name, which is just north of the city centre and accessible by tram.
In recent times the emphasis has moved away from geese to white knuckle rides, with a huge array of rides, stalls and food.
Nottingham has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
Other attractions in the city include the castle, where the English civil war started, The Tales of Robin Hood, a family attraction tracing the life and times of the famous outlaw, and riverside walks along the Trent.
