For those looking for something to do after the presents have been opened and the umpteenth portion of turkey consumed, the Welsh Grand National meeting at Chepstow offers the chance for an exciting day out.
Held on December 27th, the meeting features top-class national hunt racing as several races take place, with the National taking place in the afternoon.
While the winter weather may spring some surprises, many top horses have won the race in recent years, including Corbiere and Earth Summit.
Entry to the course is £12-17, depending on the part of course.
Outside the course, the Chepstow area has many attractions as well as plentiful accommodation, including cheap hotels.
Being close to the border with England, it has easy access to both Bristol and Cardiff, with Offa's Dyke and the countryside of the Marches and the Brecon Beacons close at hand.
