Hotel Bookings Go Online
More hotel bookings were made online last year than from travel agents, it has been revealed.
New figures released by electronic marketing firm TravelClick show that online bookings proved more popular in 2005 than travel agents for the first time ever.
The figures highlight the increasing demand for online transactions and the fact that more and more hotels are now investing in online booking services linked into their websites.
Robert Post, president and chief executive of TravelClick, also looked at the impact on phone reservations, stating that "voice reservations continue to decline because of the increasing preference of consumers to book electronically".
The increased penetration of high-speed broadband services in the UK has helped to push forward online bookings as more people are willing and able to book and pay over the internet.
TravelClick found that hotels' own websites accounted for three-quarters of all online transactions.
