It's Opera Up North
A venue named after the man who painted the matchstalk men and matchstalk cats and dogs might not be the first place one would imagine opera taking place, but high culture comes to the Lowry theatre in Salford Quays in the Opera North Spring Tour.
Between June 19th and 23rd Opera North has announced there will be performances of the Magic Flute, Rigoletto, Katya Kabanova and Dido and Aeneas.
Ticket prices vary between £13 and £50.
Apart from the opera, the Lowry Centre, which contains the theatre, also has an art gallery where many of L.S. Lowry's works are displayed, showing that his range of style went far beyond the industrial landscapes for which he is most famous.
The Salford Quays area also lies close to a range of attractions, with the Manchester United museum nearby, while the centre of Manchester, offering myriad attractions, renowned nightlife and cheap hotels is just a couple of miles away.
