London Prepares to Host Olympic Torch Relay Leg
People staying in cheap hotels in London on April 6th can join in with the celebrations as the city hosts its leg of the Olympic torch relay.
The symbolic flame of the Olympic Games will be lit, as tradition dictates, in Olympia, Greece on March 25th.
Its journey will then see it passed through the hands of 20,000 people in 22 major cities across the world before it arrives in China on August 8th.
Travelling a total of 137,000km, the torch will visit Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Islamabad, Hong Kong and even Mount Everest.
While the exact route for the torch's visit to London is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to take in the city's old and new features, visit its diverse communities and pass its most iconic landmarks.
The relay will involve school pupils, sports club members, Olympians, celebrities and others, with each torchbearer carrying the flame for 250 metres.
Ken Livingstone, mayor of London, said: "It is a great honour for our London to participate in the 2008 Torch Relay and participate in carrying the Olympic spirit of friendship and cooperation between nations across the world."
