London to Celebrate All Things African
London will be hosting a celebration of African culture in Trafalgar Square in May.
Originally organised as African Freedom Day in 1963, Africa Day falls on May 25th every year and provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to celebrate the culture and life of the great continent.
The free one-day festival will be inspired by the colours and textures of Africa and will recognise the positive contributions that African communities have made to life in London.
Trafalgar Square will become a hub of fun and activity, with African music, food and crafts being sold and exhibited around the famous landmark.
Among the highlights for people staying in cheap hotels in London will be performances by Miriam Makeba, Pauline Oduro and the African Jazz All Stars.
Visitors will be able to sample a range of African dishes, including suya, jollof rice, egusi, fried plantain, moi moi and kelewele.
A procession and masquerade will be organised by the African Families Foundation and will feature a number of community-based hometown associations, women's organisations and cultural groups.
