Mad for It
Visitors to Manchester who haven't been to the city for some time will notice that plenty has changed, not least the conversion of the famous Hacienda nightclub into flats, symbolising a shift from one era to another.
For those with memories of those 80s and early 90s Madchester years, or those who simply want to find out what it was like, the Urbis museum of the modern city has an ongoing exhibition dedicated to the memory of the Hacienda.
Called Hacienda 25T, the exhibition is open now and runs until February 17th 2008, with a reconstruction of the interior of the famous nightclub forming the centrepiece of the exhibition.
A visit undertaken now will be particularly poignant following the recent death of Anthony Wilson, co-owner of the Hacienda and the man behind many of the bands in the Madchester scene.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the city will still be able to enjoy plenty of music and other entertainment after hours, with the nearby M.E.N arena hosting the Kaiser Chiefs on November 30th, while those who fancy seeing something a bit different can enjoy the capella harmonies of South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo at the Bridgewater Hall on November 11th.
