Manchester Celebrates Chinese New Year

Manchester celebrates Chinese New Year Manchester has a thriving Chinese community and on February 14th, the Chinese New Year celebrations begin.

People who book cheap hotels in Manchester will have the chance to join in the celebrations in the city's ChinaTown and Albert Square.

The event organiser, the Federation of Chinese Associations of Manchester (FCAM), promises a day of parades, acrobatics, Shaolin martial arts and a 175ft-long dragon dance.

This is the year of the tiger for China and the country will be bringing in its 4,708th year.

Visitors will be able to bring children along for a funfair and workshop, as well as tasting traditional Chinese food. The event will end with a fireworks display.

Tourists to Manchester in February can also visit the artwork from Star Wars at the Generation Pop Art Gallery, on display until February 20th. For more traditional tastes, the galleries at The Lowry feature 350 works by Mancunian artist, LS Lowry.
