One of the most famous creations of Greek mythology, the Minotaur is a half-man, half-beast creature that resides inside a labyrinth in Crete, where it waits for a blood sacrifice to be provided by Athens.
Among the innocents sent to be sacrificed to the Minotaur is Theseus, who relies on the help of Ariadne to make his way through the labyrinth and challenge the creature.
Sir Harrison has already explored Greek myth with his production The Mask of Orpheus and also composed The Woman and the Hare and The Ring Dance of the Nazarene.
The Royal Opera House will also be hosting a production of The Sleeping Beauty over the coming months, which will run from March 13th until May 6th.
