New Mamet Play Plows into Old Vic
The latest stage offering from American playwright David Mamet, Speed-The-Plow, will begin its run at the Old Vic theatre tomorrow.
Mamet is regarded as one of the sharpest and most uncompromising voices in modern theatre and this play sees his words brought to life by Hollywood stars Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum.
Spacey and Goldblum play movie producers Bobby Gould and Charlie Fox and much of the play's dialogue centres around their debates on the subject of art versus money.
Gould finds himself facing a dilemma should he make another money-spinning blockbuster or give his backing to a poetic, meaningful story that could spell professional suicide?
Mamet's other plays include Glengarry Glen Ross, Oleanna and American Buffalo and his new offering is filled with the quickfire, caustic dialogue for which he is known.
