New Manchester Gallery to Open in October

The Artland Gallery in Manchester will open on October 6th with an exhibition of work by leading photographer Jan Chlebik.

Manchester and New York, which will run until December 13th, is a display of images exploring both of these bustling cities.

Chlebik, who has lived in Manchester since childhood, said his work is informed by the many years he has spent in the city.

"I've been here so long I feel I've earned the right to make my own statement about Manchester, in visual terms. I love taking photographs in Manchester, the familiarity works very well," he said.

"When I think of the photographers I most admire, like the ones who shot New York in those iconic black and white images of the 1940s – these were people who really knew their city. This is what I want to reflect in this exhibition – to explore the complexities, similarities and differences between both places."

Next February, the Artland Gallery will host New York Times photographer Christoph Bangert's exhibition Iraq – The Space Between. This will represent the first time the controversial display has been show outside the US.
