New Play to Open in the West End
Theatre fans staying in cheap hotels in London will soon be able to see a brand new play on the West End stage.
The Female of the Species, the latest play from Joanna Murray-Smith, will open for previews at the Vaudeville Theatre from July 10th and will take bookings until October 4th.
It will have big shoes to fill at the Vaudeville, as it is taking over from The Deep Blue Sea, starring Gretta Scacchi, an emotionally charged play that will have its final performance on July 5th.
Charles Spencer of the Daily Telegraph called The Deep Blue Sea "one of the greatest plays of the last century", while Paul Callan of the Daily Express described Scacchi's performance as "outstanding".
Leading the cast that will attempt to follow this production with The Female of the Species will be Eileen Atkins, along with Paul Chahidi, Anna Maxwell-Martin and Con O'Neill, among others.
The play centres on the character of Margot Mason, a writer on a deadline whose world is turned upside down when a fan unexpectedly turns up on her doorstep and brings her family and friends with her.
